Nov. 30, 1936 ---- July 12, 2022

Monticello, Iowa --- Elizabeth "Betty" Tighe, 85, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, July 12, 2022, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by her loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 18, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello, with internment in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where a parish Vigil Service will be held at 3 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday morning from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Austin Strong Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

Surviving is her husband, Robert; three children, Robert (Randi), William (Katie) and Jacquelin Tighe (Brad Lester) her AFS son, Pascal (Frenchie) Magneron; seven grandchildren, Liam, Margaret, Caitlyn, Talia (Dan Heyer) Breeyn, Madison (Jordan) Mescher and Krysten (Kaylynn); two great-grandchildren, Chase and Elizabeth Mescher; and three siblings, Carol (Jimmy) Livermore, Dan (Mona) O'Neill and Sherlock (Sue) O'Neill. She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Sherlock O'Neill; and sisters, Jeanie, Frannie, and Peggy.

Elizabeth Annette O'Neill was born Nov. 30, 1936, at Waterbury, Neb. She was the daughter of Sherlock and Margaret O'Neill. Betty graduated from South Sioux City Nebraska High School in 1955. She married Robert Tighe on Nov. 26, 1959, in South Sioux City, Neb. The couple moved with Bob's employment as head football coach to Arcadia and Emerson Nebraska, LeMars Gehlen High School then Eagle Grove, Iowa. He was employed by State Farm Insurance when they moved to West Branch Iowa, and then on to Monticello in 1990. Betty's life was all about her family. She loved being a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, attending all her children's events. Her children's friends thought of her as a second mother. She taught CCD and was a Cub Scout Den Mother. She enjoyed her employment at Gifted in Old Capital Mall in Iowa City for 15 years. Betty and her family supported and cheered on Iowa Hawkeye football as season ticket holders for 45 years. Betty was famous for her cooking and baking, especially her cookies. Her loving and caring nature carried over to her daughter-in-laws whose lives she impacted immensely. Betty loved everyone unconditionally, without judgement, as she accepted them into their family. Betty will be missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
