Merle Peterson, 92, Webster City, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002 at Crestview Manor. Funeral services were held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church in Webster City with Cindi O'Brien, ministry assistant officiating. Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral Home.

Merle May Crosby, daughter of Arch and Myrtle Crosby, was born July 1, 1909 on a farm southwest of Webster City. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Webster City and attended Webster City Junior College and taught for a short time in rural Hamilton County. On Nov. 9, 1928, she married William Cecil Bernard. The couple farmed near Woolstock. Mr. Bernard died in 1938. On June 17, 1950 she married Edward Carl Peterson at Princeton, Mo. The couple resided in Webster City, then moved to Schiller Park and Spring Valley, Ill. They retired to Spirit Lake and returned to Webster City in 1975. Mr. Peterson died August 2, 1982.

Mrs. Peterson is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Virgil Grubbe, Webster City, Diane and Jack Toussaint, Cedar Rapids, grandchildren, Kathy Janson, Webster City, Michael Grubbe, Maitland, Fla., John Toussaint of Appleton, Wis., and Carol Gannon of West Des Moines, 6 great-grandchildren and two nephews, Mark and Greg Claude of Webster City. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene Bernard; her parents and a sister, Mildred Claude.

She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
