Dwight L. Tyrrell, 95, of Belmond, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2022 at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond.

Memorial services for Dwight Tyrrell will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond, with Pastor David Boogerd officiating. Private family burial with military honors will be held at the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, May 9, 2022 at Ewing Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Belmond Ambulance or the Holmes Christmas Club.

Dwight Lewis, son W. P. and Gladys (Hauge) Tyrrell, was born on November 19, 1926 on the family farm near Belmond. Dwight grew up and attended school in Belmond. He attended two years at Kemper Military School in Missouri, where he received his high school diploma. Dwight served in the United States Army during WWII in Germany.

When Dwight returned to Belmond following his time in the service, he managed the family farm. He loved being in the field and raising cattle.

In 1949, Dwight was united in marriage to Sylvia Shoemaker. They were blessed with five children. In 1981, Dwight married Bobbi Morford.

Dwight spent all his life in the Belmond area, enjoying summers at Lake Cornelia. He was president for Farmers Grain Company for 25 years and active in the Jaycee’s for a long time.

Dwight was a Sigma Chi at Iowa State and was a huge Iowa State football fan. His favorite past time was golf, spending many hours on golf courses. Dwight and Bobbi enjoyed vacationing in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Dwight is survived by his wife Bobbi Tyrrell of Belmond; children Doug (Marilyn) Tyrrell of Millersburg, Iowa, Tom (Pam) Tyrrell of Clarion, Iowa, Jim (Dorothy) Tyrrell of New Rochelle, New York, Alan (Sarah) Tyrrell of Dixon, New Mexico, and Claire (Patrick) McNear of Greeley, Colorado; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister Marion Koontz of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and numerous other family and friends.

Dwight was the life of the party… and if you know Dwight, you know.
