Sherman Oliver Northrop
1 April 1837 --- 29 March 1905

This community was shocked to learn Wednesday that Sherman Northrop had passed to his reward above early on that morning. The deceased came to his death from a stroke of paralysis which overtook him Tuesday noon. Up to that time he had been enjoying his usual good health and spirits. To that like a stroke of lightning from a clear sky comes the announcement of his death.

Sherman Northrop was sixty-eight years of age. He was born in Warren County, Pa., where he grew to manhood. On the 27th of October 1858, he was joined in marriage to Miss Isabelle Whitely, of the same county and state. He removed to Iowa in 1864, fist settling at Toledo. He soon moved from Toledo to Eagle Grove, living here his quiet and peaceful life for twenty-seven years.

He was a member of the 136th Pennsylvania Volunteers, enlisting in August 1862, and was honorably discharged in May 1863. During his service in the Union army, he proved himself to be a good soldier. He was a member of the local G. A. R. and has always taken an active interest in the organization of that body.

To Mr. and Mrs. Northrop was born twelve children, four of whom survive the deceased, two sons and two daughters. The funeral will be held Friday at the Methodist church at 2:30 p.m.

The family have the sympathy of the entire community.
