David Clair McOllough passed away on January 6, 2016 after a sudden illness at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa surrounded by his family. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at the Clarion Lighthouse Church of the Nazarene, 1010 2nd Street SW, on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at two o’clock in the afternoon. Memorials may be directed to the Clarion Lighthouse Church of the Nazarene, 1010 2nd St. SW, Clarion, IA 50525 or the Humane Society of Wright County.

David Clair McOllough passed away on January 6, 2016 after a sudden illness at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa surrounded by his family. David McOllough was born in 1950 [January 7, 1950 in Hampton, Iowa] to Clair and Verlene McOllough of Clarion, Iowa. David grew up on the McOllough family farm located outside of Clarion with his family and extended family members. David attended Country School Woolstock #1 and participated in 4-H. David’s family moved into town when he was in the third grade and he attended Clarion High School where he played football and was named All Conference Guard. David also played basketball and was a member of the C-Club and Future Farmers of America. Following graduation in 1968, David earned an associate degree from Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls.

In 1969, David joined the Iowa National Guard. He completed his basic training at Fort Lee, Virginia
where he earned the distinction of being an Honor Graduate of Canvas and Webbed Equipage Repair Class. David qualified as a sharpshooter and was Honorably Discharged as a SP/4 in 1975.

David went on to join his father’s feed and fertilizer business, The Clarion Farm Supply, and he had his own spraying business. He also owned a farm and managed rental properties in Clarion. David enjoyed a variety of pastimes and interests, including coins and stamps. He was an instrument rated private pilot for single engine airplanes when he was 27 years old and enjoyed flying for several years. He was an avid WW II history buff as his father, Clair McOllough, fought 611 continuous days of combat in six major campaigns on the front-lines in Italy and Africa.

David liked traveling and made several trips to visit family and friends throughout the continental United States, Hawaii, Mexico, and the Philippines. He also adored animals, caring for the stray cats in his neighborhood without fail. In his youth, David was baptized in the Clarion Church of Christ, and in later years, he attended the Clarion Lighthouse Church of the Nazarene.

David was preceded in passing into Heaven by his parents Clair and Verlene McOllough. He is survived by his sisters Viki Walbridge of Arvada, CO and Jacqueline McOllough of Ankeny, IA and his brother Daniel McOllough and wife Linda of Algona, IA. David is also survived by many cousins, nieces
and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.
