Jerry was born April 20, 1937, to Henry and Annie (Peddle) Wenzel in Belmond, IA. He spent his childhood on a farm near Rowan, IA.

In 1959, he married Lolaraye Martin, and to this union two daughters, Laurene and Lavonne, were born. In 1971, he married Marieta Butcher, whom he just celebrated 47 years of marriage with in January 2018.

Jerry and Marieta spent 22 years living in Britt, where Jerry worked for 18 years at Martings Manufacturing. After he retired from there, they moved to Garner and later to Mason City. Jerry loved his family and cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had the greatest smile for everyone that he met and always said, hi. He loved farming, and his brother-in-law, Merlyn, kept him up to date on crops while the two also discussed which tractor was better. Jerry also enjoyed going to McDonald’s when he could and made many friends along the way. He made many friendships and good memories at Good Shepherd and loved the guys and gals who cared for him.
