EAGLE GROVE - Eathyle Young Stoakes, 94, of Washington, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at United Presbyterian Home in Washington, Iowa following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield, with the Rev. Ron McMenamin officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield. The family will receive friends and family from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Memorials may be directed to United Presbyterian Church or at the discretion of the family.

Mrs. Stoakes was born March 27, 1909, in rural Goldfield, Iowa the daughter of James and Jesse (Young) McGowan. She married Braden Barbour Stoakes on June 21, 1933.

Eathyle Stoakes, 94, of Washington, Iowa, formerly of Goldfield, died Sunday, November 30, 2003, at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington, Iowa. Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 4, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield with the Rev. Ron McMenamin officiating. Burial was held in the Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield.

She was born March 27, 1909, in rural Goldfield, the daughter of James and Jessie (Young) McGowan. She graduated from Renwick High School and attended Coe College. She taught in country school and was a homemaker after her marriage. On June 21, 1933, Eathyle was united in marriage with Braden Barbour Stoakes. Mrs. Stoakes had been a resident of Washington, Iowa since December 1999. She had lived her entire life in the Goldfield area.

She was a member of the Goldfield United Presbyterian Church her entire life being baptized as an infant in the church. Eathyle was the first woman elder of the church, and belonged to the Mariners and was the treasurer of the Presbyterian Women for many years. She also belonged to the Alpha Delphian Federation Club, Goldfield and Wright County Historical Societies, and White Shrine. She loved to play bridge and attend sporting events.

She is survived by two sons, Jack, and wife, Barb, of Goldfield; Ken and wife, Phyllis, of Goldfield; a daughter, JoAnn McMenamin and her husband, Ron; of Washington, Iowa; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jessie Helmke, of Humboldt. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Braden, in 1973; four sisters, and six brothers.

Memorials may be directed to the United Presbyterian Church or to the discretion of the family. Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of the arrangements.
