Funeral services for John Rod were held Monday afternoon at the Methodist church with Rev. Frank Elliott officiating. Burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Rod long time Goldfield business man, was found dead at his home Thursday evening, with death being attributed to natural caused.

He is survived by his step son, Gerald D. Haynes of Arcadia, Calif.; four brothers: Andrew Rod of Badger; Nels, Bernt and Olav of Norway; six sisters; all of Norway, and two step-grandchildren.

Mr. Rod was born in Norway, and came to the United States when he was 19 and located at Badger.

He later moved to Humboldt, where he worked at the carpenter trade and was married to Dorothy Haynes in Humboldt on June 30, 1940. They moved to Goldfield where John was in the Goldfield Hatchery for many years.

He was a past member of the Goldfield School Board; served as Park Commissioner; and was a member of the Elks Lodge of Ft. Dodge.

Obituary

John Rod, son of Haldor and Lena Benge Rod was born January 1, 1907 in Os Norway. He spent his early childhood in Norway and received his education there. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith while still in Norway.

At the age of 19 he came to the United States to Badger, Iowa. He later moved to Humboldt, Iowa where he was employed as a carpenter. On June 30, 1940, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Haynes in Humboldt. The moved to Goldfield where John was in the Hatchery Business for many years; served as a park commissioner for several years and was a member of the Elks Lodge of Fort Dodge.

John entered into eternal rest, Wednesday, November 12, 1969, after a sudden illness at his home. He was 62 years, 10 months and 11 days at the time of his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Dorothy who passed from this life in 1964. He leaves to mourn his passing, his step-son, Gerald D. Haynes, of Arcadis, Calif.; two step-grandchildren, four brothers, Andrew Rod of Badger, Iowa; Nels, Bernt and Olav Rod of Norway; six sisters: Mrs. Kari Skaatun, Mrs. Anna Ovreeide, Mrs. Haldis Kolaas, Mrs. Ruth Hjelle, Mrs. Agnes Leknes; and Mrs. Gunvor Haugland all of Norway and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 17, 1969, at the Methodist Church, Goldfield, Iowa at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Frank Elliott officiating. Interment was held on the family lot at Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield, Iowa.
