Magne Bjorklund
24 July 1909 ---- 28 June 1994Magne Bjorklund was born on July 24, 1909 the son of Syvert and Marie Vatne Bjorklund at Finnoy, Norway. He was educated in Launsnes Folke Skule and Rygabo Folke Skule High School. He came to the United States in 1929 working as a laborer in the lumber camps of Wisconsin and Canada. Bjorklund later moved to Iowa where he was employed as a farm hand on the Harvey farm near Goldfield. It was while working for the Harvey's that he met and later married their daughter, Gladys Beatrice on May 21, 1939. The couple was married on the Harvey farm and later also lived there. They retired in 1976. He and his wife remained at their residence until moving to the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove in 1990.
Gladys Bjorklund died on May 17, 1994. Magne Bjorklund died at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home on Tuesday, June 28, 1994. He had attained the age of 84 years, 11 months, and 4 days.
He is survived by his sons, Arnold and wife Pat Bjorklund of Goldfield and Bernard and wife Jena Bjorklund of Nora Springs; daughters, Mary Ann and husband Eton Johnson of Bode and Sonja and husband John Bohren of Dakota City; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brothers, Oscar and Nils of Eagle Grove, Sverre and wife Judith of Sandnes, Norway; sisters, Ingrid Kaali of Gransherad, Norway, Alma Nilsen, Margit Sele, and Selma Lovik, all of Stavanger, Norway. Bjorklund was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys; two brothers, Arne and Bjarne; and his sister, Anna Bjorklund.
He was a member of the Lake Lutheran Church in Goldfield, having served as deacon and trustee of the church, the Sons of Norway, and the American Farm Bureau.
Funeral services for Magne Bjorklund were held on Friday, July 1, 1994 at the Lake Lutheran Church, Goldfield. The Reverends Dr. Palmer Wold and H. W. Schiller officiated the 2 p.m. service, and burial was in the Lake Lutheran Cemetery. Willim Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
