Donald Duane Slaikeu
June 1, 1904 --- June 28, 1994Donald D. Slaikeu was born on June 1, 1904 the son of Alva and Lydia Slaikeu at Goldfield. The family moved to northern Wisconsin and later returned to Iowa where they located in Worthington. They then moved to Harris, Minnesota. Slaikeu was educated in Harris and the University of Minnesota's ag program. He was united in marriage to Alta Duerst on January 1, 1930 at Goldfield; The couple farmed in the Evergreen area near Goldfield before retiring and moving into Goldfield.
Slaikeu and his wife moved to the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove where they both were residents at the time of his death on Tuesday, June 28, 1994. He had attained the age of 90 years and 24 days.
Surviving Slaikeu are his wife, Alta of Eagle Grove; sons, Perry, and wife Gladys of Humboldt, Duane and wife Doris of La Porte City, Iowa, Roger Slaikeu of Union City, Calif., James and wife Jeanette of Mora, Minn.; stepbrother, Richard of Eagle Grove; and 17 grandchildren and many greatgrandchildren. Slaikeu was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Margaret Smith Slaikeu; his brother, Forest; and his sister, Eleanor Schradle.
He was a longtime member of the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield, Goldfield Cooperative and Creamery, a township trustee, a member of the Wright County Farm Bureau, the Evergreen Sporting Association, and the Lion's Club.
Funeral services for Donald D. Slaikeu were held on Friday, July 1, 1994 at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield. The Reverend Naidim Saikaly officiated the 11 a.m. service, and burial was in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. Willim Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
