December 11, 1956 ---- October 17, 2021

Donald Lee Wurch passed away October 17, 2021 in San Diego, California. He is survived by his wife, Becky (Brewer) Wurch, their fur babies Bitsy, Dealer, and Chika, his siblings Robert Wurch, William Wurch, Mary Vigil, his nephews/nieces Christine Perez, Jennifer Wurch, Elizabeth Wurch, Billy Wurch, Samuel Vigil, and Seth Vigil, his mother-in-law Cloma Brewer, as well as brother-in-laws Michael Vigil, Duane Brewer, sisters-in-law Mary Wurch, Aleta Davis, Kay Lange, and Dorla Ortega, along with their spouses. He is preceded in death by his parents as well as father-in-law, Jim Brewer, and his fur babies Spike, Buffy, Rocky, Rusty, and Gunner.

Don was born on December 11, 1956 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Wilbur Dean Wurch and Yvonne Alice Odland, lived in Eagle Grove, Iowa for the youngest years of his life, and lived on a farm in Gilmore City, Iowa from 1969 to 1974, the year he graduated from high school there. He moved to Des Moines, Iowa that same year to work for a printing press company before attending Arizona State University where he earned an Electrical Engineering degree in 1987. After college, he moved to Mountain View, California to work in the Randtron Microwave Antenna Engineering Department, working on antenna design which pushed him to specialize in software engineering. Don earned an MS degree in Software Engineering from California State University San Jose in 1991. In the mid 90s, Don moved to Wylie and later Rockwall, Texas where he was hired as the lead software designer for Controller Systems. His resume consists of being a Software Architect/Development Consultant for Electrospace Systems, IMS Systems, and Nortel Networks, as well as the Principle Software Architect and Development Prime for Spatial Wireless, all in Richardson, Texas. He also earned an Executive MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2008. Don worked as the Principle Software Architect/Developer for Bell Labs Ventures and Alcatel-Lucent, both in Plano, Texas. He flourished at work in that industry before transferring to San Diego, California, where he became the Director over a division of L3.

He eventually retired and lived the last years of his life with his wife and fur babies on their yacht in the Harbor. Don was known for telling friends and even strangers how ‘blessed’ he was to have met Becky and what a sweet wife he had. He enjoyed fishing, jet skiing, watching movies, Friday night pizza at Fern’s, get-togethers with his Rockwall neighbors, Taco Tuesdays, and especially attending church with the love of his life, Becky, who he married on July 7, 2013 at Shelter Cove Marina in San Diego. Some of his favorite things also included driving his red Corvette, spending time with his sister, Mary, and watching The Five, Tucker Carlson, and Gutfeld!, as well as cheering for the Dallas Cowboy football team, and listening to Def Leppard and Bad Company.

Don's viewing will be held on Friday, November 5, 2021 from 5-7pm at Crofts-Crow Funeral Home in Johnson City, Texas, Becky's hometown, where she was a 1984 graduate of LBJ High School. Don's funeral service will be held Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 1pm at Rocky Community Church, CR 205 Rocky Road, Johnson City, Texas. Graveside services immediately following at Rocky Creek Community Cemetery.

Attendees are invited to attend a reception after the graveside service at Pleasant Hill-Rocky Schoolhouse, CR 205 Rocky Road, hosted by Liberty Lighthouse Fellowship, Community Church of the Hills, Gospel Assembly of Boerne, and Rocky Community Church.

Friends and family may choose to send plants/flowers or consider making a donation in Don's name to Rocky Creek Cemetery Association.

Kind, generous, brilliant, heart made of pure gold, a believer in Christ, a man with traditional values, with the best smile and infectious laugh is how so many people described Don, as he is missed by so many left behind.

Thank you to Pastor Duane’s Towne Park Bible Study group for providing lunch following the funeral services.
