Myrtle Matilda (Haas) Schaumburg, the daughter of Otho and Matilda (Van Horn) Haas, was born on March 12, 1923, in Renwick, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth then her family moved to Eagle Grove, where she graduated in the Class of 1941.
On October 4, 1942, Myrtle was united in marriage with Joseph S. W. Schaumburg at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Woolstock. The couple farmed and made their home north of the French Church near Woolstock for five years prior to moving south of Troy Township in Wright County and the Governor Blue Farm. They moved to Eagle Grove in 1950. Myrtle sold Tupperware for 44 years, cooked in the Country Club kitchen for 6 years and worked for Franklin’s Manufacturing, Webster City Products and White Consolidated Industries for 17 ˝ years.
Myrtle was a member of the St, Peters Lutheran Church in Woolstock and Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard. She enjoyed baking, canning, gardening, mowing her lawn and taking “vacations”!
Myrtle moved to Mallard in 2017 to live with her daughter, Denise and then into the Ruthven Community Care Center in September of 2020.
Myrtle passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at the Ruthven Community Care Center, at the age of 98 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Joanne; granddaughter, Michelle McPeak; husband, Joseph in 1994; son, Merlin Schaumburg; two brothers, Marvin and Calvin; sister, Vonieta Xanders Feaster; four brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law and two nephews.
Survivors include her children: William Schaumburg of Coppell, TX, Robert Schaumburg (Janette) of Dakota City, Martin Schaumburg (Alisa) of Altoona, Louann McPeak (Dave) of LuVerne and Denise Taylor of Mallard; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild on the way; sisters-in-law, Georgene Briener of Webster City and Barbara Schaumburg of Clarion and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 1, 2021, 11:00 a.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove with Rev. Bill Van Nostrand officiating. Visitation is Sunday from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
