Helen Margery Peterson Haupt
8 August 1923 --- 15 December 2014

Helen M. Haupt, 91, died December 15, 2014 at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton. Services were held December 22 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Coulter. Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery

Helen was born August 8, 1923 to Walter and Hannah Jensen Petersen on a farm south of Coulter. She grew up in the Coulter-Latimer area, graduating from Latimer High School in 1940. She then attended UNI where she received her teaching certificate. She taught in rural schools in Hamilton Township. In 1970 Helen received her bachelors degree in education from Drake University in Des Moines.

Helen married Bernard Haupt on December 28, 1947. Two daughters were born to this union: Joann and Sharon. Helen continued teaching in Goodell and Belmond for 42-1/2 years until her retirement in 1989. Her passion was teaching, and she also loved to play the piano, listen to music, share jokes, work on crossword puzzles, travel, go on small field trips with her siblings and spend quality time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband; brother Kenneth; and sister Mildred. Helen is survived by her daughter Joann Haupt of Cedar Rapids; daughter Sharon (David) Ross and their children Katie and Emily Ross all of Ely; her sister, Elaine (Halvor) Egede of Hampton; and her sister-in- law Edna Petersen of Latimer.
