James K. “Mack” Reid (1878-1950)

Mack Reid, son of Sam and Mary Reid, was born at Traer on Jan. 12, 1878. The family moved to this vicinity in 1881 where he lived for a number of years. He entered into the service of the United States army on August 3, 1918, and remained in service at San Pedro, Calif., until December, 1918, when he received an honorable discharge.

He spent most of his life in the vicinity of Duncombe. When he became ill in 1946, he entered the Iowa Soldiers home at Marshalltown; later he was moved to the Veterans hospital at Knoxville where he died on Nov. 2.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Tom, and is survived by three sisters, Mrs. J. A. Matheson and Mrs. Jennie Tedrow of Goldfield and Mrs. C. B. Martin of Torrance, Calif.

The burial service was conducted by the local post of the American Legion, with Rev. C. G. McKnight, chaplain, officiating. The Goldfield Gazette
