Obituary

Robert Pollock, son of Alexander and Jean Pollock, was born on a farm near Beith, Ayrshire, Scotland, on Oct. 12, in the year 1849. His mother died when he was eight years old and his home from that time until he was twenty was on a farm with an uncle and aunt.

He came to Montreal Canada, in 1871. He worked as a farm hand for about a year in New York State and then came to the Scotch settlement in Tama County, Iowa. In 1882 he came to Goldfield where he bought the farm which has been his home for more than 58 years.

In Tama County on Feb. 13, 1878, he married Janet Armstrong, and their happy marriage endured until the passing of Mrs. Pollock, Dec. 1, 1937. Into their home were born six children. One son died in infancy. And their daughter, Annie Davidson Pollock passed away in early childhood. Three sons and a daughter are living. They are: John, of Austin, Minn.; Mrs. Roy Marlin of Hartland, Minn.; Robert, of Amboy, Minn., and James, of this community. There are 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Robert Pollock passed away at his home early Thursday morning, Feb. 13, aged 91 years, 4 months and 1 day. Many years had taken some of the strength, from his body and dimmed his eyes, but had taken from him none of the vigor of his mind. Until a few weeks before his death his visiting friends found him happy to converse on any of the topics of the day

His many years have been filled with active interests—his farming, his community and his friends. He had a native Scot's appreciation of fine cattle. He tilled the soil carefully and well. Church and school and community activities were a part of his life from the pioneer days up to the present. He and his wife were two of the 13 charter members of the Goldfield. United Presbyterian church. His interest in and sympathy for his many friends was unfailing, and in his declining years his patience and kindliness was a joy to all who were near him.

In the last years of his life his radio kept him well versed on the markets and all current, affairs. Through all his life his Bible and fellowship in prayer with his Lord sustained his soul. At the close of life it was his testimony that God had fulfilled in him the words from Psalm 91: "With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation."
