Fredrick Dale Johnston
21 September 1950 --- 10 February 1989

Fredrick Dale Johnston was born September 21, 1950, the son of Francis and Patricia Davis Johnston, at Fort Dodge. He attended Eagle Grove schools, and graduated from the Eagle Grove High School in 1968. Fred also entered the United States Army in 1968, serving one year in Vietnam, being honorably discharged in 1972. After the service, he enrolled at Hawkeye Technical Schools in Waterloo, and graduated with honors with a degree in the tool and die industry. Fred then furthered his education at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, majoring in design engineering. He was employed by Schnieder Metal in Mason City.

Fred was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Tressler of Hampton, on July 19, 1960, at Hampton. They resided in Hampton, before moving to Mason City in December of 1988. He was a member of the American Legion in Hampton, and listed in the Who's Who in Junior Colleges.

Fredrick Dale Johnston died of heart failure due to an extended illness in Mason City on February 10, 1989. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father. He is survived by his mother, Patricia Johnston, Eagle Grove; his wife, Beverly, San Diego, Calif.; one son, Phillip, and one daughter, Shelby, both of San Diego; and one brother, William, Eagle Grove.

Funeral services were held February 17 at 2 p.m. at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. The Rev. Wayne Droessler officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. The Veterans of Foreign Wars presented full military rites at the gravesite in respect to a deceased veteran.
