Mrs. Emma DeWitt, 77, died early Monday morning at the Askvig and Crickmore Nursing home in Eagle Grove where she had been a patient for the past ten days. Mrs. DeWitt suffered a stroke at her home on September 8 and had been seriously ill since that time. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:30 at the Goldfield Methodist church with the Rev. R. R. Kessinger conducting the services. Mrs. Conger Whyte and Leonard Madison sang two duets. Pallbearers were Alfred Wheeler, Phil Beckerdite, Kay Strom, Honroe Halvorsen, Robert DeWitt and Russell DeWitt. Interment was made at Glenwood cemetery.

Mrs. Emma Jane DeWitt was born on December 22, 1871 at Wolf Station, Ohio. She was united in marriage to John H. DeWitt March 25, 1908. They resided at Wolf Station until June 1908 at which time they moved to Farnhamville, Iowa. Between the years 1909 and 1943 they lived at Dayton and finally at Goldfield. Mr. DeWitt died in June of 1943.

Mrs. DeWitt was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters, all older than she, an infant daughter and two step-daughters, Mrs. Charles B. Johnson and Mrs. Earl Rushton. Surviving the deceased are a son, Curtis DeWitt, a step-daughter, Mrs. Reinhard Nolte, two stepsons, James and Ellis DeWitt, all of Goldfield; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

As a young girl, she became a member of the Methodist church. She transferred her letter to the Goldfield Methodist church in 1944. –Goldfield Chronicle
