October 21, 1950 ---- March 1, 2021

Danny L. Metcalf, age 70 of Boone, Iowa passed away suddenly on Monday, March 1, 2021 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 3:00 until 6:00 P.M. on Friday, March 5, 2021 at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone, with family present from 5:00 until 6:00 P.M. A private graveside service will be held on Monday, March 8, 2021 at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.

Danny Lee Metcalf was born on October 21, 1950 to Dean F. and Genevieve "Pat" (Montgomery) Metcalf in Boone. He graduated from Boone High School in 1969. Following graduation, Danny enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served during Vietnam, from 1969 until 1973, on the USS Lofberg and the USS Higbee.

Danny worked as a truckdriver for Fareway Stores Inc. for 39 years. He drove over a million miles over his years with Fareway, retiring in 2016. Danny loved the outdoors and staying busy. He spent time working outside at home, taking care of his acreage. He enjoyed fishing, taking several trips to Minnesota. He tinkered with his Mustang and Norton motorcycle that he received part by part from overseas.

Danny loved to learn about World War II! He had bookshelves of only books about WWII and could be found watching the History Channel as well. He liked to watch sports. He and Jody spent a lot of time watching baseball, football, and NASCAR. His favorite teams were the New York Giants and San Francisco Giants. The story behind all the Giants teams is that Danny was a Giant in Little League.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Pat Metcalf; his first wife, Cynthia "Cid" in 2007; brother-in-law, Bob Thede; and uncle, Morris "Mike" Montgomery. He is survived by his beloved Jody Fritcher; sister, Barbara Keys-Thede of Boone; brothers, Gene (Karen) Keys of Loveland, CO and Mike Metcalf of Boone; along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone.
