Richard O. Wolter, 79, of Belmond, formerly from Osage, passed away Friday, August 20, 2021 at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond.
A Memorial Service for Richard Wolter will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond.
Richard Olaf Wolter was born May 29, 1942 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, where he was raised by his mother Alma and stepfather Francis Drake.
Richard was united in marriage to Shirley Koster on March 17, 1962 in Hokah, Minnesota, and the couple was blessed with daughters Donna, Debbie and Denise. The family eventually settled in Osage, before Richard and Shirley moved to Belmond a few years ago.
Richard worked a variety of jobs over the years before being forced to retire due to ill health. His passion for woodworking continued, however, and he would make a variety of items and wooden toys that he gave away to friends and family.
Richard was well-known for sharing his “stories” and the line between fact and fiction may not have always been clear. He enjoyed spending time with his coffee group, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Richard is survived by his wife Shirley Wolter of Belmond; daughters Donna (Mike) Dorsey, Debbie (Todd) Oberreuter and Denise (Derek Nibarger); grandchildren Keith (Daniele) Dorsey, Nicole (Clark Jorgensen) Dorsey, Alex (Bethanie) Oberreuter, Rick (Emily) Gallup, Dustin (Kayla) Blaser, Cory (Tiffany) Gallup, Chris (Demi Kaylea) Bergstrom and Brandon Bergstrom; great-grandchildren Talynn, Jaeger, Clay, Nicholas, Madison, Paityn, Matthew, Brityn, Opie, Ariyah, Elleigh, Stella, Grady, Camden and Copeland; sisters Betty Torstrud and Joyce Olloft; many nieces and nephews; and special pet Duke the dog.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, brother Duane Wolter and step-brothers Gene Drake and Charles Drake.
