Harold Paul Chapman
29 February 1956 ---- 13 March 1974

A 18 year-old Goldfield man was pronounced dead upon arrival at Trinity West Hospital in Fort Dodge Wednesday morning following a freak accident at the Emmer Eagle Grove Inc. warehouse.

Harold Chapman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Chapman, Goldfield died of multiple back, chest and head injuries received after a fork lift fell on him. The incident took place about 8:15 a.m. as Chapman was operating a 5-ton forklift in the warehouse building. Chapman apparently had just finished placing a pile of lumber near the north wall of the building and had turned the forklift around to move to another area.

FELL OUT OF DOOR
In doing so, Chapman made a fast, sharp righthand turn with the empty forklift, falling out of the
open door of the vehicle. The momentum of the turn caused the unit to turn over on its left side, crushing the operator's chest and back as the cab of the vehicle fell on him.

ALONE
Chapman was apparently alone in the area at the time of the accident. A very short time thereafter another forklift operator, Fred Timmerman, drove his larger unit to the scene and lifted the 5-ton machine off the victim. The Eagle Grove ambulance arrived immediately following and was accompanied by Dr. Dale Harding enroute to the hospital. Ambulance attendants were John Peterson and Mark Cranston.

The time and date of funeral services for Harold Chapman were not available at press time. The Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Harold Chapman is survived by his parents, two brothers, Jeff and Christopher, and one sister, Mary Beth, all of Goldfield. Mr. Chapman attended the Goldfield Community Schools before starting to work at Emmer Eagle Grove Inc. on March 1 of this year.
