Orval Carl Hoffman was born July 26, 1912, at Renwick, Iowa, to William Carl and Margaretha Levien Hoffman. He attended country school at Renwick and was in the first graduating class from Renwick High School. He farmed with his father until he married Dorothy Shurson on November 22, 1936, at Eagle Grove, Iowa. His wife died May 23, 1988. After marriage, they lived on the farm. The Hoffmans had spent their winters in Florida since 1970 and returned to Iowa in the summer. He was a director of the Board of Boone
Valley Electric and held several offices at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He also built cabinets in the original church. He was instrumental in building the Community Center in Renwick.

Orval Carl Hoffman died Sunday, December 5, 1999, in Dade City, Florida, at the Fort Dade Mobile Home Park, at the age of 87. He is survived by three sons, Marvin of Beatrice, Neb., Roger of Wilmington, N. C., and David of Renwick; two daughters, Sharon Wilson of Sun Lakes, Ariz., and Ellen Shurson of Omaha, Neb.; one daughter-in-law, Sharon Hoffman of Ames, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; son, Donald; 3 sisters, Alvera, Elsie, Velva; and a brother, Herbert.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 10, 1999, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Renwick with the Reverend Sandy Krynik officiating. Burial was held in the Elmwood Cemetery at Renwick. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ORVAL CARL HOFFMAN, 87, of Ridge Manor died Sunday. A native of Renwick, Iowa, he moved to this area in 1973. He was a farmer and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Renwick. He is survived by three sons, Marvin of Beatrice, Neb., Roger of Wilmington, N.C., and David of Renwick; two daughters, Sharon Wilson of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Ellen Shurson of Omaha, Neb.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Coleman & Ferguson Funeral Home, Dade City.
