Robert E. Howell was born in Algona, Iowa, on February 25, 1931, to Lonnie W. and Vera Naomi Howell. He spent most of his early life in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He had been married to Maxine Johnson of Eagle Grove, and Elizabeth Ayala of Fort Dodge, Iowa. Elizabeth died of cancer, and he was married to Carol Charlson of Fort Dodge on January 10, 1975, in Sioux Falls, S. D. He was employed by Hormel's in Fort Dodge for 32 years before retiring in 1982 at which time he became an independent truck contractor. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Robert E. Howell died Monday, December 11, 2000, in Scottsdale, Ariz., at the age of 69. He is survived by a his wife, Carol; four daughters, Barb Bailey, Colorado Springs, Colo., Tina Heaphy and husband, James, Escondido, Calif., Shawna Eggleton, and husband, Marvin, Muskegon, Mich., and Anglea Jackson, and husband, Jermaine, Phoenix, Ariz.; 7 sons, Jack, Jeff, and Brent, Escondido, Calif., Gregg, and wife, Julie, Bobby, and wife, Julie , Frank, and wife, Shelly, and Bart, all of Fort Dodge; two stepsons, Kevin Carlson, and wife, Rosa, Phoenix, Daniel Carlson, and wife, Laura, Marion, Ind.; one step-daughter, Christine King, and husband, John, of Phoenix; three brothers, Donald, Corona, Calif., and Goldfield;, Jack, Logan, Iowa, and Lynn, Denver, Colo.; one sister-in-law, Esther Howell, Eagle Grove; 28 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elizabeth; one daughter, Vera; and one brother, Lonnie W. Howell, Jr.

Memorial services were held on Thursday, December 14, 2000, at the clubhouse at Saddle Mountain Village in Scottsdale, Ariz., where he and his wife lived. There will be a Memorial Service at Sacred Heart Parish, Fort Dodge, on May 26, 2001.
