Walter Earl Moffitt, Sr.
6 January 1893 --- 11 August 1971

Walter Earl Moffitt, son of Henry and Mary Messenger Moffitt, was born January 6, 1893 in Murray, Iowa, where he attended the public schools.

On May 15, 1915 he was united in marriage to Harriett Barrett in DeKalb, Ill., and to this union five sons and one daughter were born.

Mr. and Mrs. Moffitt and family moved to Eagle Grove in 1921 and have continued to make their home here the past 50 years. Mr. Moffitt worked for various Eagle Grove concerns and retired in 1958. He was a member of the Iowa Fireman's Association.

Walter had been in failing health and on July 31, he entered Mercy Hospital, Fort Dodge, where he passed away Wednesday noon, August 11. He was 76 years, 7 months, and 5 days of age at the time of his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Harriett, five sons: Roy of Livermore, Calif.; Walter, Jr., of Eagle Grove; Edward of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Jim of Eagle Grove; Ralph of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one daughter: Mrs. Eleanor Parsons of Wichita, Kansas; fifteen grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ray Welker of Murray, Iowa.

Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 13, at the Wilson Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, with Rev. Donald L. Forbes officiating. Interment was held in Rose Hill Cemetery.
