Kari Nilsdatter “Carrie” Sjovangen Bjelland
2 May 1865 --- 26 April 1966

Carrie Bjelland was born to Nils and Valborg Sjovangen, May 2, 1865 and was baptized June 4th the same year. She received her Christian instruction and was confirmed September 21st, 1879 in the Fjelberg congregation.

On July 6 she was united in marriage to Haus Hansen Bjelland in Bergen, Norway. Her husband died in Jan. 1900.

Mrs. Bjelland and her 3 children came to the United States in April 1907 to Kanawha, Iowa and in Feb. 1909 to Eagle Grove and united with the Evangelical Lutheran church where she since had been a member. She attended services faithfully as long as her health permitted. She loved the church and the word of God. She had been in failing health for many years and was cared for by her daughter, Nellie.

She died at Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Dodge, April 26, 1966 at 1:30 a.m. reaching the age of 100 years, 11 months, 24 days. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters in infancy and by 3 brothers, Severin, Severt, and Wilhelm, and one daughter, Mrs. Vallie Engelby in 1958.

She leaves to mourn; one son, H. C. Bjelland, Portland, Ore., one daughter, Nellie Bjelland at home, 8 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren, and brother in Norway.

Funeral services were held April 30, 1966, in the Evangelical Lutheran church at 2 p.m. Officiating was Rev. W. E. Carlson.
