Everett Olmstead, 57, of Webster City died Wednesday afternoon when he was run over by a state Department of Transportation truck in an accident which occurred at 3 p.m. on Highway 20.

Olmstead, a DOT employee, was walking in the eastbound lane of a bridge on U.S. Highway 20 when the 1984 International truck, driven by Thomas Mallo, 53, of Webster City, backed over him after Mallo failed to see Olmstead in the road, the Iowa State Patrol said. The men were working on the bridge at the time of the accident.

Olmstead was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hamilton County medical examiner. Dr. E K. Lowary.

The accident was investigated by the Iowa State Patrol, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s office, the Webster City Police Department, and Webster City Fire Department.

Everett Olmstead, 57, Webster City, died Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 11. Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 16, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Rev. Roy Miltner officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery at Goldfield. Visitation at the Foster Funeral Home will be after 5 p.m. Saturday until 8 a.m. Monday, when the casket will be taken to the church.

Everett Eugene Olmstead, son of Ralph and Margaret (Myers) Olmstead, was born Dec. 13, 1933, in Webster City. He was educated in Webster City, and was employed at Arrow-Acme, and at Morton Frozen Foods. He married Beverly Ann Thompson on Aug. 15, 1958, in Holmes. The couple resided in Webster City, and Mr. Olmstead continued employment at Morton's. For over 20 years, he was employed with the Iowa Department of Transportation. He was preceded in death by his wife in May 1990.

He is survived by two daughters, Anita Hook, Fort Dodge, and Marcia Olmstead, Webster City; his mother, Margaret Olmstead, Webster City, and a brother, Harold Olmstead, Webster City. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his father.

Mr. Olmstead was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and the Iowa National Guard in Webster City for nine years.
