William S. Carter
1840 --- 26 February 1891

Gone to Rest
Last week we hoped that the condition of Mr. Carter would warrant us in hoping for recovery, but it was not to be. On Thursday noon he breathed his last, leaving a wife to mourn his loss, all too untimely. He died of typhoid pneumonia. On Friday the funeral took place from the Methodist Church to Rose Hill Cemetery being attended by many friends of the family. Rev. Zellhoefer preached the funeral sermon and delivered a most excellent address.

William Carter was born in Benson, Vermont in 1840. In 1873 he married Mrs. Carter at Johnston, Wisconsin. Husband and wife made their home in Ticonderoga, N. Y., where they lost a young son and daughter. In 1882 they came to make their home in Iowa, and have been residents of Eagle Grove many years.

We are sincerely sorry that Mr. Carter has gone from among us "to that undiscovered country from whose bourne no traveler returns." He was a man who made many friends and kept them. The greatest sympathy is extended by this community to his sorrowing wife in her great affliction.

***

Mrs. Julia Carter wishes publicly to tender her heartfelt thanks to those who so kindly gave their sympathy and assistance during the sickness and subsequent death in her household.
