Lydia Ann Smith Packman
30 June 1843 --- 18 August 1888

It is with feelings of sorrow that we chronicle the death last Saturday of Mrs. Lydia N., wife of Joseph Packman, of this city, aged 45 years, 1 month, and 17 days. This is the second death in that family in one week. She had been in poor health for sometime but the family and friends were not aware that the end was so near, and the unbidden messenger came with crushing weight of sorrow upon the family and relatives. She was an amiable, kind-hearted, loving wife and mother and an earnest and sincere Christian woman, who discharged every duty with love and patience. In her death several children are left to mourn the departure of their best earthly friend, and a devoted husband and a large circle of relatives are bowed with a grief only known to hearts that have passed through similar afflictions.

Her funeral took place last Sunday at the Congregational church, after which her remains were interred in Rose Hill Cemetery.
