Verner Billings
29 March 1894 ---- 12 April 1898

Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Billings are likewise passing through the "valley of the shadow." Death entered their home on West Broadway, last Tuesday morning, at 9 o'clock, robbing the household of the youngest son, little Verner, aged about four years. A bright, manly little fellow, a favorite with all, his death is a crushing blow to parents and friends. He died quite suddenly with membraneous croup, first illness being noted on Saturday. Rev. Southwell conducted the funeral services on Tuesday evening and Verner was laid away by tender hands at Rose Hill to await the resurrection.

The community will be shocked to know that Vernon, the bright little son of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Billings, died Tuesday morning at 9:20 o'clock of membraneous croup after only a short illness. The little fellow complained Friday of sore throat and a doctor was called. He grew rapidly worse and, despite the efforts of two physicians, the progress of the disease could not be checked from its inception until he was taken away. He was about four years old and a little boy of unusual brightness, loving in nature and a source of much comfort to his parents. On account of the contagious nature of the disease the funeral will be private. The sorrowing parents will have the sympathy of the entire community in their affliction which is a burden almost too great to be borne.
