Bernhard Hartvig Moklebust
15 December 1913 ---- 22 April 1995

Bernhard Hartvig Moklebust was born on December 15, 1913, the son of Hans and Anna Knutson Moklebust at Thor. He was raised in the Thor area, and received his education in the Thor and Eagle Grove School System. Following graduation from Eagle Grove High School, Bernard went on to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from Iowa State University in Ames.

He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Thebiay on June 14, 1942 at Eagle Grove. He entered the United States Naval Reserves where he served during World War II. He returned to Eagle Grove and established himself as an area farmer. He and his family farmed in the Troy Township area for 50 years. He was a member of the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church, served on the Board of Directors for Boone Valley Co-op, and was a member of the R.E.C. and the Farmers Co-op Elevator.

Bernhard Hartvig Moklebust died in his home on Saturday, April 22, 1995 at the age of 81 years, 4 months, and 23 days. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth of Eagle Grove; daughter, Barbara Hicks, her husband Charles, Toledo, Ohio; sons, Joe and his wife Mary, Des Moines, David and his wife Cathy, Roseville, Minn.; 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; brother, John Moklebust and wife Margaret of Sun City, Calif.; and sister, Inez Holt of Ellsworth; sister-in-law, Helen Olsen and husband Ken of Santa Rosa, Calif; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Bernhard Hartvig Moklebust were held on Tuesday, April 25, 1995 at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with the Reverend Lyle Peters officiating. Burial was held in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Willim Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
