Robert Leon Martin, D.D.S.
28 August 1887 ---- 24 September 1959

Dr. Robert Leon Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Martin was born at Flanagan, Ill., on Aug. 28, 1887. The family lived on a farm in Kansas for a time and later moved to a farm near Goldfield. Dr. Martin attended the Goldfield public school and was a member of the high school class of 1906.

The following year he taught in the rural school. After, teaching for one year he entered the college of dentistry in Kansas City, Kan., where he studied for three years. He then entered Drake University where he obtained his D.D.S. degree.

Dr. Martin began his practice of dentistry in Sibley. He moved to Eagle Grove in 1912 where he has practiced ever since.

He was married to Mable Hawkins of Goldfield on Nov. 10, 1915. They have one adopted daughter, Bettie, now Mrs. Kenneth Ketchum of Clarion.

Dr. Martin was a member of the Congregational church, Masonic Lodge, and White Shrine. He was an active member of the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, and Eagle Grove Country Club. He was an ardent sports fan and participated in various sports through the years.

He died at Mercy Hospital in Ft. Dodge on Sept. 24 as a result of a stroke. He was 72 years, and 35 days of age.

He leaves his wife, his daughter and her husband, and three grandchildren, David, Milo, and Melissa Ketchum, two brothers, Claude B. Martin of Terrence, Calif., and Merle I. Martin of Plant City, Fla., three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Garner of Des Moines, Mrs. Ethel McDonald of Independence, and Mrs. Lillian McCutcheon of Goldfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother.
