Willard Marion Pontius
May 11, 1919 ---- January 5, 1983

Funeral services for Willard "Bill" Pontius, 63, who died Wed. Jan. 5, 1983 at his home southwest of Eagle Grove, were held on Saturday, Jan. 8 at 10:30 at the Vincent United Methodist Church. Burial was at the Graceland Cemetery at Webster City.

Survivors include his wife Margaret; a son, James Pontius of Fort Dodge; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Jane) Zabel of Otho; seven grandchildren; one brother, Gaylord of Denver, Colo.; and sisters, Mrs. Wilma Nickson of Metairie, La.; Mrs. Delia Bonjour of Topeka, Ks.; Mrs. Delories Hembree of Rapid River, Mich., and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Pontius was born in Mitchell, S.D. and attended schools there. He came to Iowa in 1933 and made his home in the Woolstock area with Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Doolittle and the Walter Wilcoxes. In 1941 he was married to Margaret Brown. They made their home in Fort Dodge where he was employed at the Fort Dodge Horn Manufacturing Company until 1950. He then became a heavy equipment operator and foreman for the Carlson Construction Co. of Decorah until suffering a heart attack in 1961. He was semi-retired and moved to a farm southwest of Eagle Grove in 1965. Later he again suffered several heart attacks. He retired in 1972. He was a member of the Vincent United Methodist Church and Webster County Farm Bureau.
