Swan Peterson was born February 15, 1837, at Hishult, Sweden, and passed away at his home in Britt, Iowa, June 25, 1930, at 12:30 p. m. He reached the ripe old age of 93 years, 4 months and 10 days. He was the oldest resident in Britt at the time of his death.

Although for some years Mr. Peterson has not been active in work; due to his age, it pleased his Heavenly Father to grant him health and strength sufficient to be about at home. In this he seemed to take special delight not wishing to be considered unable. Not until about two weeks before his death was, he bedridden for any length of time; although all his life he was a patient sufferer, being afflicted with asthma.

His wife preceded him in death two years ago. Her maiden name was Nellie Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Peterson were married in Hishult, Sweden October 7, 1864. To this union were born ten children, two of whom passed away in infancy. There remain to mourn the departure of their father Mrs. Dave Anderson, John Peterson, Mrs. Axel Trulson, of Britt; N. P. Peterson and Mrs. Henry Harvey, of Goldfield; Mrs J. C. Johnson and Henry Peterson, of Zohl, No. Dak., and Alex Peterson, of Whitefish, Montana. Besides the immediate family there are thirty-five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, and a host of friends, made through these many years.

Mr. Peterson, with his family after crossing the waters in 1881. Located at Britt; later at Hayfield and then at Goldfield. During the last twenty-seven years however, he has made his home in Britt and during his feeble age has been cared for by John who stayed with him, and the Dave Anderson family near whose home he had his little house.

Mr. Peterson was converted shortly after his marriage and baptised into the Swedish Baptist church of which he was a member at the time of his death. Especially during the later years of his life, he devoted much time to reading his Bible. In this he found his joy and comfort.

The Rev. B. A. Rust of Bethel Baptist church conducted the funeral service at the church Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Burial was at Evergreen cemetery.

Father, in your passing on
We feel our loss so keenly;
Yet there is a ray of dawn
As you sleep now serenely.

We’d be glad to have you now
We miss your courage, strength and love;
But since cold death lies on your brow
Your soul is safe with God above.

Though it’s hard to miss you, father,
We would not want to call you back;
You left this life to live another
And where you are there is no lack.

No grief, no sorrow, pain or tears
No parting moments e’er shall come
Just joy throughout eternal years
Sweet peace in “Home Sweet Home".

Your years, of, testimony o’er
Your helpful hand is lying still;
You worked until you could no more
You scattered sunshine and good will.

Tis now for us to follow you
To carry on what you began;
In life, in death to Christ be true
To do His will where’er we can.
