Funeral services for George Peterson were held Friday, January 5, 1973 at 2:00 p. m. in the United Methodist church. Goldfield, Iowa with Rev. George Den Hartog officiating. Interment was held in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield, Iowa with Wilson Funeral Home of Eagle Grove, Iowa in charge of arrangements.

George Fredrick Peterson, son of Alfred Jonas and Rosa Elizabeth Bastian Peterson, was born December 14, 1890 on a farm near Vincent, Iowa and attended country schools near there. He spent ten years of his boyhood in Vincent before moving to Okarche, Oklahoma, where he lived seven years before returning to Vincent.

On January 1, 1916 he was united in marriage to Gertrude Rachael Welch in Webster City, Iowa, and to this union six children were born. The family farmed near Vincent several years before moving to a farm near Goldfield, Iowa. In 1949 he semi-retired from forty years of farming and moved into the town of Goldfield, where they had resided twenty-three years.

George had been in ill health the last six years and on November 30 of 1972 he was moved to the Belmond Nursing Home, where he passed away Tuesday evening, January 2, 1973. He was 82 years and 18 days of age at the time of his passing.

Mr. and Mrs. Peterson had observed their 57th wedding anniversary on January 1st, the day before his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, William: and 4 sisters, Elizabeth, Elsie, Clara and Hazel. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Gertrude and two sons and four daughters: Donald of Goldfield; Mrs. LaVerna Frank of Britt; Mrs. Celesta Keech of Goldfield, Mrs. Ed (Lorena) Richards of Circle Pines, Minn.; Wilford of Goldfield and Mrs. Gerald (Lois) Binder of Webster City; 30 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ervin Peterson of Vincent, and one sister, Ethel, Mrs. Mark Insko of Beloit, Wisconsin; other relatives and friends.
