Donald L. Powell, 66, of Goldfield, died Thursday, April 22, at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield with the Rev. James Siebert officiating. Burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery.

Donald LeRoy Powell was born May 24, 1937 in Dayton, Iowa, the son of Riley and Bernice (Daniels) Powell. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, attending Lehigh and Webster City Schools. In 1956, Donald enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea after the war, on April 11, 1959, he married Sandra L. Larson in Princeton, Mo. He lived in Webster City, Eagle Grove, and then Goldfield for 16 years. He worked as a long-distance truck driver, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He loved his grandchildren and fixing their toys. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and plowing fields in the fall for his son-in-law.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra, of Goldfield, four daughters: Crystal Pepples-Powell, of Scranton, Becky Krull, of Clarion, Pam Ellis, and her husband, Joel, of Goldfield, and Heather Christensen, and her husband, Kevin, of Goldfield, one son, Randy Powell, and his friend, Susie Evans, of Scranton; 13 grandchildren, one great-grandson, two sisters, Diane Burgin, of Crivitz, Wisc, and Bonnie Weise, of Athelstane, Wisc. and one brother, Dean Powell and his wife, Peggy, of Webster City. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Dorothy, two brothers, Gene and Russell, and three infant brothers.

The Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of the arrangements.
