John Jones, 51 [48], of this city, became ill following his forenoon's work in a gravel pit west of Fort Dodge Saturday noon. He was brought home Saturday evening and seemed to be getting along nicely. Sunday morning, he was taken seriously ill and died Monday noon, death being caused by heat exhaustion. Mr. Jones lived at the north end of Wright Street. Funeral services will be held at the Baptist church this Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. J. M. Overby in charge.

John M. Jones Jr., son of John M. and Lucinda Jones, was born near Heyworth, McLean county, Ill., July 13, 1879 [1882]. He passed away at his home in Eagle Grove, Iowa, Monday, June 29, 1931, at 12:15 p. m., age 51 [48] years, 11 months and 15 [16] days.

His father, mother, three brothers and one sister preceded him in death, leaving to mourn his departure his wife, six children, namely; Mrs. Millhouse [Melhus], Harold, Richard, Nellie, Casper, Leonard, all of Eagle Grove; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. O. E. Lister, Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Charles Smith, Heyworth, Ill., with many nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Jones was reared in a Christian home and through his early training he gave his life, to Christ, uniting with the Webster City Christian church.

He was a good husband and father, always providing well for his family and while laboring in a gravel pit near Fort Dodge Saturday of last week he was overcome by heat and was brought to his home by friends where all was done for him that could be done by physicians, family and friends. After 48 hours of intense suffering, he passed quietly away.
