Roy M. Sanders
26 April 1891 --- 12 March 1949

Roy M. Sanders, 57, well known Head Grove farmer, died Saturday March 12th in a Council Bluffs hospital where he had been a patient for ten days. Mr. Sanders had been in failing health for about three years, and his condition was described as a tumor of the brain.

In his immediate family, he is survived by his wife and three children, Mrs. Gerald Walsh, Mrs. Paul Umstead of this city, and Delmer Sanders, who is farming near Woolstock.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church, and the pastor Rev. Harrison G. Dawes had charge.

Burial was in the family lot at Rose Hill Cemetery. Masonic rites were conducted at the Wilson Chapel, Monday night by Bower Lodge 464.

Those from out-of-town who came for the funeral were: Mrs. Cora Sanders, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert B. Sanders and family of Bismarck, N. D., Mr. and Mrs. Harold Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Graff, and Mrs. Frank Pletcher of Valley Springs, S. D., Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Duitscher and Stanley of McAllen, Texas, F. T. Lewis and sons Howard, and Lawrence and Hugh of Lakota; Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Brock of Ledyard, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Bernard, Miss Eileen Bernard of Cedar Falls.

Mrs. Sanders was unable to attend her husband's funeral as she was taken very ill Monday morning and rushed to a Fort Dodge hospital where an emergency operation for appendicitis was performed.

Obituary

Roy M. Sanders the son of Delmer and Hadassah Sanders was born April 26, 1891 at Keota, Iowa and passed away March 12, 1949 at the age of 57 years, 10 months, and 16 days. His parents moved to Wright County in the spring of 1892, and he attended the schools at Clarion, Iowa. He taught for 5 years in the rural schools of the county.

On August 26, 1916, he was united in marriage to Geneva Lewis of Head Grove. They lived a year and a half near Holmes and in the spring of 1918, they moved to a farm in Head Grove where they have resided ever since.

Mr. and Mrs. Sanders were the parents of four children, Mrs. Ethel Walsh, Delmar Sanders, and Mrs. Maxine Umstead, all of Eagle Grove. One daughter, Leone, preceded her father in death on December 23, 1945. He also leaves 5 grandchildren, a sister Mrs. Arthur Duitscher of Clarion, a brother Robert Sanders and a stepmother, Mrs. Cora Sanders of Bismarck N. Dakota, several nieces, and nephews.

Mr. Sanders has not been well for nearly three years and on March 3rd entered the hospital at Council Bluffs for examination and the doctors found he was suffering from a brain tumor. It was while there he was stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage on March 10th and passed away March 12th.

He was a member of the First Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge and took great interest in all community affairs and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
