Goldfield Chronicle

Reuben Wood, the former Agnes Ottilie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Ottilie, (Jennie Whyte) died in Spencer, March 20th.

Funeral services will be held in Spencer Thursday morning at the Warner Funeral Chapel with graveside services in the Goldfield Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Kay Mills officiating.

Mrs. Wood is survived by her husband; one daughter, Mrs. J. Peters, Conrad; one son, Larry in the service; a sister, Mrs. W. Mendenhall; Spirit Lake, and two brothers, Dr. Don Ottilie, Oelwein and Robert of Marshalltown.

Agnes L. Wood, 50, of Spencer, died last Monday morning at Spencer Municipal Hospital. At the time of her death, she was the third grade teacher at Fairview Park School in Spencer. She had taught in Delaware County and Arlington, Bennett, and Montour, Iowa before moving to Spencer in 1936. Mrs. Wood was born in Nora Springs, to Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Ottilie. The family later moved to Manchester, where she attended school and was graduated in 1935. She attended Coe College and obtained her degree from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake. She was united in marriage to Reuben M. Wood in 1943.

She is survived by her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Jerry Peters of Conrad, one grandson, and a son, Larry Wood, who is in the United States Air Force, stationed at Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Wally Mendenhall of Spirit Lake; and two brothers, Dr. D. J. Ottilie of Oelwein and Robert Ottilie of Marshalltown. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Gertrude.

Funeral services were held Thursday morning, March 23, at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer with burial in Goldfield. Those attending services in Spencer were Dr. and, Mrs. J. C. Erlander of Eagle Grove, Earl Anderson, Eliot Sevareid, Kenneth Whyte, Mrs. R. L. Cunningham, Conger Whyte, Robert Whyte and John Whyte, Jr.
