Kenneth Malcolm Whyte was born on June 24, 1907, in Goldfield, Iowa, to George Wilson and Agnes Weir Stevenson Whyte. He lived in Goldfield all of his life. He attended Goldfield schools and graduated from Goldfield High School in 1926. He went to work for his father at the hardware-furniture-implement store, "Whyte & Son," while still in high school. He continued to work at the store for many years. After his father's death, he worked with John Whyte, Jr. until retirement in 1974. He was united in marriage with Charlotte L. Richardson on June 8, 1927, at his parents’ home in Goldfield. She died on November 26, 1983. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Goldfield and served on the church council. He served on the Goldfield School Board; the Goldfield Improvement Committee; Senior Housing; was a charter member of Oakridge Recreation Club; and belonged to the F. A. N. Club of Goldfield. He was also a member of the Masonic Bower Lodge #464, Eagle Grove; the ElKAHIR Shrine, Cedar Rapids; Mt. Lebanon Commandry, Clarion; Eagle Grove Chapter #123 Council and the Medina Council. He was a former president of the Wright County Shrine Club.

Kenneth M. Whyte died Sunday, May 9, 1999, at his home in Goldfield at the age of 91.

Survivors include one daughter, Marylyn Wilson, Goldfield; one daughter-in-law, Joanne Whyte, Goldfield; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Charlotte; his son, Kent E. Whyte; three brothers, George Whyte, John Whyte, and Lawrence Whyte; seven sisters, Jennie Ottilie, Carrie Anderson, Inez Whyte, Ethel Henry, Lura Sevareid, Myrtle McGowan, Mamie Cunningham; a grandson, Eric Whyte; and a great-granddaughter, Meagan Wilson.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 14, 1999, at 2 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Goldfield with Reverend Karen Dearchs officiating.

Burial was held in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield. Willim Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements
