Alva A. Pollard
4 December 1880 --- 6 March 1972

Alva Pollard, 91 of Dows, died on Monday morning, March 6, 1972 at the Clarion Community Hospital where he had been a patient for the past several days after suffering a stroke. Funeral services were held from the United Methodist Church on Wednesday. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery at Dows. Willim Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Born December 4, 1880 at Boone, he was the son of Harry and Mary Frances Hannum Pollard and received his education in the schools near Boone. As a young man he went to Montana where he homesteaded for a number of years and later moved to Woden, Iowa. In 1947 he came to Dows and for the past eighteen years has made his home with a niece, Mrs. Donald Gardalen of Dows.

Mr. Pollard never married and is survived by one sister, Mrs. Fred (Lula Maude) Heim of Dows. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Woden.
