Avon Taletha Trousdale Dietrich
11 September 1912 ---- 28 March 1995Chamberlain - Avon Taletha Dietrich, 82, a former teacher's aide, died Tuesday, March 28, 1995 at Sunset Valley Haven Nursing Home in Chamberlain, South Dakota.
Avon Trousdale was born September 11, 1912 in Dows, Iowa. She graduated from Popejoy, Iowa High School in 1930 and later from Ellsworth Junior College, Iowa Falls in 1932. She taught rural school in Franklin County.
She married L. Kenneth Dietrich on August 29, 1936 in Popejoy. He died February 15, 1969. They lived on the east coast until 1948, when the moved to Alcester, South Dakota. She worked in H & N Grocery Store and later at Title I Program as a teacher's aide. She moved to Chamberlain in July 1991 and entered Sunset Valley Haven Nursing Home on January 14, 1993.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Alcester, where she served as a deaconess and held various offices of the Ladies Aide. She was also a 4-H leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, Junior Choir leader and was past grand page of the Eastern Star Lodge.
She is survived by one son, Marlyn K. of Virginia Beach, Virginia; one daughter, Mrs. Roger (Marlys) Buum of Chamberlain; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Esther Mae Cox of Iowa Falls, Iowa.
Services will be Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Chamberlain. A second service will be Saturday at Elledge Funeral Home in Dows with burial at Fairview Cemetery in Dows. Wevik Funeral Home in Chamberlain is in charge of local arrangements.
