17 October 1888 --- 26 October 1972John Wirtz, 84, of Clear Lake died on Thursday at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City where he had been a patient since October 1, 1972.
Funeral services were held Monday at the First Presbyterian church with Pastor W. O. Niles officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Dows and the Willim Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He was born October 17, 1888 in Peru, Illinois and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Wirtz. In 1918 he came to the Belmond area and in 1933 he moved to a farm north of Dows, where he farmed until his retirement in 1963 when he moved to Clear Lake.
His first marriage was to Charlotte Reinke on October 10, 1915 at LaSalle, Illinois. She died in 1951. On September 6, 1963 he was united in marriage to Addie Huntley in Manly.
Mr. Wirtz is survived by his wife and six children: Mrs. Thomas (Irene) McVenes of Des Moines; Mrs. Ivan (Florence) Pralle of Latimer; Arthur Wirtz of Hampton; Mrs. Dale (Loretta) Chambers of Dows; Mrs. Darwin (Elsie) Lekwa of Ames and Elmer Wirtz of Helena, Montana. There are two step-children: Mrs. Gilbert Miner of Floyd and Charles Huntley of Hot Springs, Arkansas. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and four sisters: Mrs. Gertrude Bishop of Dubuque; Mrs. Teresa Srock of Flint, Michigan; Mrs. Anna Miller of LaSalle, Illinois and Mrs. Emma Sutton of Peru, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, one infant son, one brother, three sisters and one grandchild.
