Virgil M. Hess, Sr.
8 March 1902 ---- 13 January 1965

Dows - Virgil M. Hess, 62, died at his home here Wednesday morning. Born March 8, 1902 at Washington, Indiana, he was the son of Edwin and Ida Hess. He came to Iowa in 1918 and to Wright County in 1938. He was employed at Boyt Cattle Farm southeast of Dows.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; a daughter, Mrs. Orville (Margaret) Gardalen of Des Moines; three sons: Robert, Dows; Virgil Jr., Des Moines and Richard, Fort Dodge; three sisters; two brothers; 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, James in 1963; a grandchild, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist Church here. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Thomas Stewart officiating. Van Hove Funeral Home is in charge.
