Funeral services for Jesse McClure Shirk of Goldfield, 79, who died early Thursday morning, following a cerebral hemorrhage, were held at the Church of Christ Sunday afternoon.

Pall bearers were Harold Shirk, Donald Shirk, Bernard Hasbrouck, Jack Coffey and Robert Dawson, all grandsons of the deceased.

Jesse Shirk, who was born at Mt. Carroll, Ill., April 1, 1867, came with his parents to Grundy county, Iowa, in 1869, and grew to manhood there.

He came to Wright county 50 years ago and settled on a farm near Clarion, later moving to a farm near Renwick. Six years later he purchased a farm three miles north of Goldfield where he and his family resided until he retired in 1920, moving at that time to Clarion. In 1929 he purchased the home in Goldfield where he was living at the time of his death. He was an active member of the Christian church for many years and recently had. been made a lifetime elder of the local church.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Ona Hasbrouck of Goldfield, Hettie Margaret Coffey, of Des Moines and Zella Irene Shupe of Clarion, and one son, Paul B. Shirk of Des Moines. He also leaves to mourn his death 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, two step-daughters, Mrs. C. A. Mitchell of Upper Dauby, Pa., and Mrs. C. A. Riley of Bruce, Miss.

Interment was in Glenwood. cemetery and the Kastler Funeral home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.

Jesse McClure Shirk was born at Mt. Carroll, Ill., April 1, 1867 and died at his home in Goldfield, Iowa, July 11, 1946, at the age of 79 years 3 months and 10 days.

He was next to the youngest in a family of 12 children. He came with his parents to Grundy county, Iowa, in 1869 and grew to manhood there.

He was married to Inez May Ralston of Grundy county, Iowa on September 22, 1891. To this union was born a daughter, Mrs. Ona Hasbrouck of Goldfield. Iowa. The mother passed away March 10, 1893.

He then went to O'Brien county, Iowa, and on October 4, 1894, was married to Hattie E. Lewis. To this union was born three children, Paul B. Shirk and Hettie Margaret Coffey of Des Moines, and Zella Irene Shupe of Clarion. Mrs. Shirk passed away July 25, 1931.

On September 6, 1932, he was married to Mrs. Minnie Kennedy, who survives him. He also leaves to mourn his death thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, also two stepdaughters, Mrs. C. A. Riley of Bruce, Miss. and Mrs. C. A. Mitchell of Upper Darby, Pa.

That he is dead; he is just away.
With a cheery smile and a wave of his hand.
He has wandered into an unknown land,
And left us dreaming how very fair
It needs must be since he lingers there "

Out of town relatives attending the funeral were as follows: Mr. and Mrs. Paul Shirk, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Gates, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Shirk, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Pace, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Shirk, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Coffey and daughter Joan, all of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Shirk, of Cedar Rapids; Pvt. Jack Coffey, U. S. Army air corps, San Antonio, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Eldred Shupe and sons Larry and Dean Shupe, Mr. and Mrs. Mac Russell, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dawson, Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Thomas of Clarion; Bernard Hasbrouck of Moline, Ill.; Mrs. Clarence Albert Mitchell and daughter of Upper Darby, Pa.

Other family members attending were Ray B. Ralston and son James and wife of Eagle Grove; Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Ralston of Conrad; Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Ralston and children of Morrison; Mrs. Glenn Ralston and son Charles of Conrad; Mrs. Zack Comstock of Union; Mr. and Mrs. Elan Ralston of Grundy Center; Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Shirk of Marshalltown; Mrs. Birdine Shirk of Grundy Center; Mrs. Paul Hays and son of Upper Darby, Pa.; John Price of Grundy Center; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Shirk of Melvin; Mr. and Mrs. Claire Shirk of Spencer; Mrs. Jennie Broadgate of Arnolds Park; Mrs. Mayne Lange and son Harry of Arnolds Park; LeRoy Price of Grundy Center; Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Shirk of LuVerne; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Yahnke of Des Moines; Fred Yahnke of Des Moines; Mrs. Viola Miller of Marshalltown.

Friends were J. B. Bosworth, of Webster City; Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Overbaugh of Renwick; Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Hagie, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Robinson, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Shupe, Roy Shupe, Stanley Shupe, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Poundstone, Dr. and Mrs. E. L. Sizemore of Clarion; Simon Bockes, E. C. Allen of Grundy Center; Mrs. Mildred Brower, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Powers and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Gallagher, Mrs. Bertha Whitmer of Des Moines; and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Hartley of Boone.

Casket bearers were Harold Shirk, Jesse Shirk, Donald Shirk, Bernard Hasbrouck, Jack Coffey, Robert Dawson, all grandsons of the deceased. Music was furnished by a quartette comprised of Mrs. Clifford Olson, Mrs. W. D. McCutcheon, Roy B. Martin, Fritz M. Clausen, accompanied by Mrs. F. M. Clausen. Interment was in the Glenwood cemetery. The ladles of the Missionary society served dinner to 75 relatives and friends at 12-30 p. m. A large crowd attended the service.
