Micky Eugene Boyington, the son of Allan and Norma Jean (Lawrence) Boyington, was on born June 9, 1950, in Hampton, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Dows, graduating from Dows High School with the “Class of 1969”. Mick learned his love of drag racing at the age of 16 (on the streets of Dows – then legally on the track) and continued to race for 7 decades on the same racetrack.

Mick was married to Belva Krozt from 1975 to 1982, they had a son Shane. On February 14, 1997, Mick married Pam (Hanson) Throntveit. She preceded him in death on July 15, 2005. On May 24, 2014, Mick married Vicki (Read) Knutson at the racetrack in Humboldt.

Mick started out driving truck for Scott Weland and Fred Spangler before he started his 24 years at Electrolux in Webster City. He then received his AA degree in electrical technology from ICCC (when he was 65). Mick then went back to driving truck for Hennigar Construction.

Besides his love of drag racing, Mick loved to play cards – Euchre and Pepper, most of his games played at the Knotty Pine and Chappy’s.

Mick passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 17, 2021, at the age of 70 years. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle; parents and brothers, Rick “Bubba” and Bruce Boyington.

Survivors include his wife, Vicki of Goldfield; son Shane Boyington (Jenny Prifogle) of Brownsburg, IN; stepdaughters, Michelle Throntveit of Fort Dodge, Sherri Griffin (Ron) of Webster City and Treasa Throntveit of Eagle Grove; 11 grandchildren; Logan, Christie and Allison, Chelsey and JoRae, Tanner, Tyler and Austin and Deion, Daisah and Desira; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lori (Thompson) Humphreys of Clarion and Jane (Thompson) Willard of Eagle Grove and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Mick’s life will be held later this spring. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family – they can be mailed to 521 Hwy 3 West, Goldfield, Iowa 50542.
