A short time of sharing and reflections will take place at 1 PM at the funeral home and burial will follow in the Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme. at the Andrews Funeral Home, 528 East Main Street, Klemme.

Merlin "Butch" Netland, the son of George Andrew and Shirley Jean (Rapp) Netland, was born June 9, 1950, at the Britt Hospital, Britt, IA. He attended Klemme Community Schools.

Butch as most people knew him throughout his life spent most of his career as a heavy equipment operator. He was employed for a time in Texas and with Holland Construction based out of Forest City, IA. For many years he worked for Olander Contracting in North Dakota until he retired and returned to live in Klemme in Novemeber 2019. After being retired for the past year he was looking forward to heading back to work in North Dakota in the near future.

Many who knew Butch will remember him as a man with "39 lives!", somehow surviving countless near death experiences. He was very much a free spirit and could be defined as a bit of a daredevil! He loved the exhilaration and thrill of speed and flying down the highways and byways of life on two wheels and had made a trip on his Harley to Sturgis with his buddy Tony Wright. He had enjoyed a bit of time on the golf links during his years in Texas and looked forward to times spent at Goodell Lake and Eldred-Sherwood Forest bordering the lake. A favorite past time was fishing with his co-workers and dreaming about restoring his 1963 Chevy pickup, 5th Wheel and a few other projects. He was a very generous man who would do almost anything for anyone friend or stranger. Anyone who crossed in his life journey will remember Butch as definitely a one of kind man who broke the mold. He loved to socialize, was full of unique wit and a bit of the devil as he loved to tease and harass, and annoy family and friends in good fun. He often times had a quick name or pun that popped out when he was talking to others. He was definitely unfiltered in his words and thoughts at times full of vinegar! One never knew what behind his sheepish grinning face. Over the last couple years Butch looked forward to spending most days with his sidekick "Charlie" his black lab at his side wherever he went.

He is survived by his daughter Heather (Ryan) Boyd, Goodell, IA, son Christopher "Casey" Reinig and his companion Jennifer Scott, Klemme, IA and daughter Brandi Roth, Canyon Lake, TX; 2 sisters Mary Catherine "Cac" Noble, Thornton, IA, and Marilyn "Jean" Roberts, Garner, IA; many grandchildren, nieces and nephews and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings including Willard Duane Netland, Karen Kay Lay, Benjamin Lars Netland, Carolyn Ann Rasmussen, Wanda Irene Netland, and an infant brother George Andrew Netland. Andrews Funeral Homes, Klemme, IA.
