Darlene Clara Middleton, the daughter of Homer Eugene and Lena Evelyn (Vike) Middleton, was born on November 2, 1921, on a farm south of Eagle Grove. She attended country school and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1940.

Darlene started working as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell on December 2, 1946. She continued her career, also working for U.S. West and Quest Telephone Companies, for over 31 years, retiring on March 3, 1978. She moved to the Rotary Ann Apartments in September of 1987.

Darlene was a member of the United Methodist Church, U.M.W., Esther Circle, Rotary Ann Auxiliary, Telephone Pioneers of America, Communication Workers of America and the Senior Citizens Center.

Darlene enjoyed spending time outdoors - gardening and working around the farm, reading, sewing, watching sports on T.V. and riding horses.

Darlene passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Unity Point – Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, after a brief illness, at the age of 99 years. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Elwood Middleton.

She is survived by her brother, Jack Middleton (Marguerite) of Ankeny and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove on Friday, January 8, 2021, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. and with memorial services at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Alaire Willits, officiating. Burial will be Rose Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be left to the Eagle Grove United Methodist Church, 421 W. Broadway St.
