Maxine Laura Spencer
August 13, 1924 ---- December 12, 2020

Maxine L. Spencer, 96, of Nevada, Iowa, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa.

Maxine was born August 13, 1924 in Clarion, Iowa, the daughter of H. R. and Ethel (McCormick) Marshall. Maxine graduated from Clarion High School and the American Institute of Business (AIB) in Des Moines. She was united in marriage to Daniel “Gene” Spencer on May 23, 1947 in Clarion. Gene preceded Maxine in death on July 21, 2007. Maxine had worked at R. H. Donnelley in Nevada for many years. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church where she was active in several church activities, and a member of PEO Chapter AM.

Maxine is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Daniel “Dan” and Deb Spencer of Nevada; a daughter: Julie Book of Cedar Falls; two grandchildren: Ethan (Rebecca) Book, Eric Spencer; six great grandchildren: Caleb, Hannah, Isaac, Jonathan, Josiah, Abigail; and four sisters: Betty Fibikar of Dows, Mary Ann Gathman of Oelwein, Inez Hanig of Waterloo, and Phyllis (Daryl) Zwiefel of Clarion.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers: Robert Marshall, Daryl Marshall, Rush Marshall; and a sister: Theresa Hollebrand.

Maxine loved coffee, high heel shoes, her garden flowers and her family. Spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren gave her great joy! Family members who called were always treated to her wonderful giggle and laugh.

Private Family Memorial Service will be held at the Central Presbyterian Church Thursday, December 17th. Inurnment will follow at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Central Presbyterian Church. Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
