Elba Rue Codner
4 May 1887 ---- 1 July 1943

Elba Rue Codner, son of Walter C. and Ida Codner, was born at Parkersburg, Iowa on May 4th, 1887 and passed away at the Clarion Hospital the evening of July 1st, 1943, being at that time 56 years, 1 month, and 27 days of age.

Rue, as he was known to his family and friends, passed away as a result of injuries sustained when the cream truck he was driving and another collided south of Clarion on June 23rd. He was on his route for the Eagle Grove Creamery when the accident occurred.

Mr. Codner came to Eagle Grove with his parents when but seven years of age and this has been his home ever since. He attended the grades and high school of Eagle Grove and was within a few months of graduating when he began work for the C. & N. W. Ry., and he worked for them as a fireman and hostler for a number of years. For a good many years he worked for the Eagle Grove Sales Company and lately for the Eagle Grove Creamery.

He was married on May 31st, 1912 to Miss Lillian Uhr of this city and he is survived by her and several cousins; his mother and father both having preceded him in death.

Rue enjoyed singing and music of all kinds, and when a young man sang in a quartette. He was a member of the class of 1908 and while in the high school was very active in athletics, being one of the school stars in football and baseball.

He will be missed by his family and many friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 4, at 2 p. m. at Wilson's Chapel with Rev. J. R. Tumbleson in charge and interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.
