Palmer Lee Thompson was born in Norway Township near Thor, Iowa, to Lars and Blanche Olive Biondahl Thompson. He received his education in a Rural School in Norway Township. He entered the U. S. Army in October of 1942, where he attained the rank of Corporal, serving with Company C 4th Tank Battalion in Sicily, Italy, and Southern France. He received the European - African - Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, one Silver and one Bronze, Bronze Arrowhead, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. He married Wilma Bobst on October 19, 1946, in Orange, Texas. He was employed at Farmland Industries for thirteen years and seven months.

Palmer Lee Thompson died Wednesday, January 19, 2000, at his home in Eagle Grove, Iowa, at the age of 86.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma, Eagle Grove; one daughter, Barbara Deimerly, Eagle Grove; one son-in-law, James Johnson, Eagle Grove; three grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Bernice Nelson and Bernette Smith both of Goldfield, Iowa; two brothers, LeRoy Thompson, Hardy, Iowa, and Earl Thompson, Fairmont, Minn.; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Judy Johnson; and a brother, Omer Thompson.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 22, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with the Reverend H. W. Schiller officiating. Burial was held in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.

Willim Funeral Home in Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
