Gertrude R. (Welch) Peterson
May 19, 1893 --- May 3, 1992

Gertrude Rachel Peterson, 98, the oldest of seven children, passed away Sunday, May 3, 1992, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa.

Gertrude, the daughter of Delos and Rachel (Garth) Welch, was born May 19, 1893 at Woolstock, Iowa. She was in the first graduating class of the new Lincoln High School Building in 1914. She taught in the county schools near Woolstock.

On January 1, 1916, she was united in marriage with George F. Peterson, at Webster City. The couple farmed in the Webster and Wright Counties. In 1949, the couple moved into Goldfield.

She was the oldest member of the Goldfield United Methodist Church. She had a large garden of iris flowers and she also made shell pins.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; her husband George, who passed away on January 1, 1973; two sisters; four brothers and four grandchildren. Survivors include four daughters: LaVerna Frank of Britt, Iowa; Celesta Keech of Springfield, Missouri; Lorena Richards of Circle Pines, Minnesota; Lois Geerlings of Webster City, Iowa; two sons: Donald Peterson and his wife, Frances and Wilford Peterson and his wife, Phyllis, all of Goldfield, Iowa; 28 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren.
